What is Social Therapy?

east_side_institute_cover.jfif

Social Therapeutics is a post-modern approach to group-orientated psychotherapy. Social therapeutics, developed by Fred Newman in the 1970s,  is a recognized alternative medical approach to psychology that is practiced frequently in America.

Social therapy coaches work within groups and encourage them to explore the questions, hardships, and stories brought by fellow group members. The end goal is not diagnosing or "fixing the problem," but instead using the activity of the group's exploration as a tool for personal and group development.

I was trained by the East Side Insitute, which has more information about Social Therapeutics that can be found here

Luke Perone and I met while a part of the Social Therapeutic Study Program.  We spent two semesters participating in other social therapy groups as co-leaders and then joined the rest of our cohort on the weekends to discuss theory and philosophy.

After we graduated from the program, Luke and I decided to keep working together, creating separate practices, while also creating opportunities to work together. When we create social therapy sessions, we tend to choose each other as co-leads.

Our groups are open to anyone. For more information on Luke Perone, visit his website here.  â€‹
